Described as ‘World-class‘ by the Cornish Guardian, Tyn Daga is a critically acclaimed trio and Ceilidh band playing local music from far flung places as well as our own doorstep. The West Cornwall based group has a unique sound and a wide ranging repertoire, encompassing lively dance tunes and haunting melodies from around the world, captivating, rarely-heard time signatures and home-grown material.
Tyn Daga were recent finalists in the Best Folk Act category for the South West Music Awards. We have recently appeared at the Bath Folk Festival, the Golowan Festival, Holifair, The Cornwall Folk Festival, Lowender Peran Celtic Music Festival, the St Ives September Festival, The National Trust and The Tate Gallery. Our World Ceilidh Music & Dance Evening’s never fail to get the crowd on its feet – whether it’s festival goers or wedding guests.
St Ives festival-goers enjoy the revelry with our ‘World Ceilidh‘ – a range of group dances from around the world with Tyn Daga, with guest bassist Treve Nicol, caller Jo Howard and Latin dance leaders Lorraine Furneaux & Catherine Campbell.
Our unique sound features Uilleann (Irish) pipes or Irish whistles, acoustic guitar (often using alternate and open tunings), backed by a variety of world percussion and arranged in our unique style. We draw inspiration from English, Celtic and Irish music, and tunes from the Balkans and Eastern Med, Spain, Africa and Latin America. We also compose and perform our own tunes and songs.
